Nieuport 17 C.1.

Pioneering flight above the trenches

Build one of the defining fighter aircraft of the First World War. Introduced in 1916, the French Nieuport 17 C.1 paired a lightweight airframe with impressive agility. Its signature feature is the sesquiplane layout, with an upper wing considerably larger than the lower one. The recreated 110 hp Le Rhône engine, slender fuselage and open cockpit evoke an era when military aviation was still in its infancy. Historic markings and the unmistakable wing profile give the finished model a distinctive display presence. Rather than a generic biplane, you create a carefully scaled interpretation of a documented aircraft.

The 277-piece build produces a 1:32-scale model measuring 19 cm long, 25.5 cm wide and 9.5 cm high. Construction progresses from the sturdy fuselage core to the open cockpit, engine section, landing gear, propeller and tail. The unequal wings and their slender connecting struts demand particular care during assembly. Plates, smooth surface elements and specially shaped pieces capture the aircraft's narrow contours. Aligning the wing structure adds a satisfying technical challenge and reveals how the unusual design of the original aircraft worked.

The included pilot figure sits inside the open cockpit and gives the historic machine a human point of reference. Its compact footprint makes the aircraft equally suitable for considered play scenes and an orderly shelf or cabinet display. Collectors can place it alongside other Great War aircraft to create an early airfield scene. It therefore appeals both to history-minded builders aged nine and above and to adult enthusiasts of scale aircraft models.

Building with history, technology and character

COBI is the largest building brick manufacturer in Central and Eastern Europe. Based in Poland, it has a clear mission: to create high-quality building sets that combine a passion for technology, historical learning and creative play. Every set is made exclusively in the EU using rigorously tested materials.

COBI specialises in collector’s models with character: military history models, modern classics at 1:35 scale, licensed vehicles and aircraft, as well as interactive technology sets. The extensive Historical Collection is especially popular, featuring faithfully detailed tanks, aircraft, ships and vehicles from the First and Second World Wars. Moving parts, durable prints instead of stickers and authentic scales make these models a highlight for collectors and grown-up builders.

Everything is manufactured at COBI’s own factory in Mielec, Poland, using materials of European origin, in accordance with strict EU regulations and with continuous quality testing, including inspections by TÜV Rheinland. COBI also works with renowned brands such as Jeep®, Škoda®, Maserati®, Boeing® and Dassault Aviation, as well as Wargaming.net (World of Tanks and World of Warships). Thanks to the included statistics cards, many sets can even be used as compact strategy games.

COBI is therefore aimed not only at children, but also at adults, technology enthusiasts, history fans and model builders. If you are looking for something special beyond the familiar brands, you will find it here: robust quality, fascinating themes, authentic scales and durable prints, all developed and manufactured in Europe.
