IJN Akagi Aircraft Carrier.

A Giant of Naval History

This model recreates IJN Akagi, one of the best-known Japanese aircraft carriers of the interwar period and the Second World War. Her long, low silhouette, expansive flight deck and compact island capture a vessel closely tied to the rise of carrier aviation. The real Akagi began life as a planned battlecruiser and later took part in events including the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway. COBI presents this historically significant yet complex subject as a considered 1:300 scale collector’s model. Grey superstructures, a red lower hull and a wood-toned flight deck give the finished build the presence of a large museum exhibit. Displayed on its stand, the nearly 87-centimetre vessel draws the eye along every line of its elongated profile.

The 3,573-piece build starts with a densely layered hull before progressing through the deck, side platforms and island superstructure. Plates, tiles, slopes and numerous small elements shape the distinctive hull contours and finely divided technical surfaces. Around fifty printed elements reproduce deck markings, identifiers and other graphic details directly on the pieces. Small gun positions and structures add depth along the sides, while antennae and rods complete the compact command island. Moving from long structural hull sections to intricate assemblies creates a substantial project designed to unfold over several evenings.

Five repositionable micro aircraft bring the flight deck to life and let you arrange anything from orderly parking rows to launch preparations. Manually adjustable details, including small gun mounts, add restrained interaction without distracting from the display focus. A nameplate and dedicated stand give the ship a defined place in your maritime collection. It is especially suited to adult ship enthusiasts, experienced builders and anyone keen to explore historical engineering through a precise exterior model.

Building with history, technology and character

COBI is the largest building brick manufacturer in Central and Eastern Europe. Based in Poland, it has a clear mission: to create high-quality building sets that combine a passion for technology, historical learning and creative play. Every set is made exclusively in the EU using rigorously tested materials.

COBI specialises in collector’s models with character: military history models, modern classics at 1:35 scale, licensed vehicles and aircraft, as well as interactive technology sets. The extensive Historical Collection is especially popular, featuring faithfully detailed tanks, aircraft, ships and vehicles from the First and Second World Wars. Moving parts, durable prints instead of stickers and authentic scales make these models a highlight for collectors and grown-up builders.

Everything is manufactured at COBI’s own factory in Mielec, Poland, using materials of European origin, in accordance with strict EU regulations and with continuous quality testing, including inspections by TÜV Rheinland. COBI also works with renowned brands such as Jeep®, Škoda®, Maserati®, Boeing® and Dassault Aviation, as well as Wargaming.net (World of Tanks and World of Warships). Thanks to the included statistics cards, many sets can even be used as compact strategy games.

COBI is therefore aimed not only at children, but also at adults, technology enthusiasts, history fans and model builders. If you are looking for something special beyond the familiar brands, you will find it here: robust quality, fascinating themes, authentic scales and durable prints, all developed and manufactured in Europe.
