About the set · COBI 1384

Dornier Do J Wal ‘Amundsen’ N-25.

Set a course for polar history

Bring the spirit of the great polar expeditions to your display with this historic flying boat. The model recreates the Dornier Do J Wal N-25 used by Roald Amundsen on his dramatic 1925 flight towards the North Pole. Its distinctive boat-shaped hull, high-mounted wing and engines suspended between structural struts recall an age when every journey into the Arctic was a technical gamble. Rather than the aggression of a combat aircraft, its purposeful silhouette conveys the courage and determination of early aviation pioneers. The finished build becomes a tangible scene from the history of polar exploration, not simply another aircraft model.

You assemble the flying boat from 483 pieces at 1:48 scale, gradually revealing its unmistakable profile. The broad hull, expansive wings, twin propellers and characteristic tail provide a varied sequence of structural sections. The transition from the boat-like lower fuselage to the lighter framework beneath the wing highlights the unusual engineering of the original aircraft. At 35.5 cm long with a 45 cm wingspan, the completed model commands attention while its 10 cm height keeps it practical for a display cabinet. Its balanced proportions also allow it to sit naturally alongside other historic aircraft in the same scale.

This set is aimed at aviation enthusiasts, history fans and collectors who would rather build a documented expedition aircraft than a fictional machine. A Roald Amundsen figure gives the technical model a human focus and connects it directly to the North Pole mission. Younger builders receive an approachable historical project, while adults can appreciate the distinctive silhouette and the real story behind it. On display, the N-25 evokes navigation, Arctic cold and the determination to reach unknown territory from the air.

Building with history, technology and character

COBI is the largest building brick manufacturer in Central and Eastern Europe. Based in Poland, it has a clear mission: to create high-quality building sets that combine a passion for technology, historical learning and creative play. Every set is made exclusively in the EU using rigorously tested materials.

COBI specialises in collector’s models with character: military history models, modern classics at 1:35 scale, licensed vehicles and aircraft, as well as interactive technology sets. The extensive Historical Collection is especially popular, featuring faithfully detailed tanks, aircraft, ships and vehicles from the First and Second World Wars. Moving parts, durable prints instead of stickers and authentic scales make these models a highlight for collectors and grown-up builders.

Everything is manufactured at COBI’s own factory in Mielec, Poland, using materials of European origin, in accordance with strict EU regulations and with continuous quality testing, including inspections by TÜV Rheinland. COBI also works with renowned brands such as Jeep®, Škoda®, Maserati®, Boeing® and Dassault Aviation, as well as Wargaming.net (World of Tanks and World of Warships). Thanks to the included statistics cards, many sets can even be used as compact strategy games.

COBI is therefore aimed not only at children, but also at adults, technology enthusiasts, history fans and model builders. If you are looking for something special beyond the familiar brands, you will find it here: robust quality, fascinating themes, authentic scales and durable prints, all developed and manufactured in Europe.
