Retro 90s PC.
Your desk, a decade ago
A beige computer sits on the desk, with a mouse and keyboard beside it, and the nineties suddenly feel close again. You build a compact home PC complete with a deep CRT monitor, floppy drive and CD bay. Printed keys and a mouse pad turn the separate pieces into a familiar workstation. A mechanically flipping Minesweeper display brings back those early games at the computer. Look around the back and you will find period-style connections for the mouse, keyboard, game controller and audio.
This build takes you through the computer from the inside out. Across 1,634 pieces, you create the case structure before fitting the motherboard and expansion cards as separate assemblies. A graphics card, sound card and CPU cooler give the interior the look of a PC from the era. Removable or opening case panels let you revisit the hardware once the model is complete. You can slide the little floppy into its drive, while the CD bay is designed to accept a disc too.
Finished, it makes a compact desk or shelf display, especially if you grew up around machines like this. Printed details appear across the model, from the keyboard to case labels, with stickers used for a few features as well. The monitor, mouse and keyboard complete the scene without hiding the hardware inside. If you build with someone too young to remember floppy disks, the accessible components and moving details give you plenty to explore together.
