A giant born in the fjords

From the cold grey of the Norwegian fjords rises one of the most distinctive silhouettes of the Second World War: Tirpitz, sister ship to Bismarck and a technical monument of its era. This model recreates the long hull, layered decks and imposing superstructure at 1:300 scale. Carefully balanced shades of grey, black and brown capture the austere, weighty appearance of the historical vessel. With 2,810 pieces and an official length of 87 cm, it becomes a display model that commands attention on a shelf or inside a cabinet. Rather than romanticising the warship, the build invites you to explore its engineering, proportions and the naval technology of the period. Each completed section brings you closer to a tangible piece of maritime history.

The build begins with long, firmly layered hull sections whose repeating structures reward patience and accurate placement. It then shifts into a more varied rhythm as the bridge, fire-control positions, radio mast, funnel and numerous gun emplacements shape the characteristic superstructure. A total of 58 printed elements add camouflage areas, markings and technical details directly to the model. The main turrets rotate and their barrels can be positioned, while movable secondary guns and anti-aircraft weapons provide further hands-on detail. Turning propellers and a movable rudder complete an exterior-focused design with no elaborate interior.

Tirpitz is aimed primarily at experienced builders, historical modellers and collectors of large warships. One military figure is included as a thematic addition, although the monumental ship remains firmly at the centre of the display. The supplied stand supports the slender hull securely and makes the finished vessel a natural companion to other 1:300 COBI ships.
